Schwitters: ‘Then if the weather was nice we just packed a picnic lunch and went out into the Mountains.’

R. Martakies: 'Their daily routine was simple. Schwitters rose early, worked from 8.30 am until 1 pm, and then set off with Edith into the countryside carrying a packed lunch and his beloved suitcase containing artist’s materials.
He was very fond of Jerkyn’s Crag, a viewpoint high above Windermere, and Tarn Hows, a beautyspot close to Coniston, which necessitated a short bus journey. In the evening he and Edith would return home, his suitcase full of found objects, a newly painted canvas strapped to his back."
